Starting in the 2022-2023 academic year, Marshall created several significant new awards for faculty demonstrating teaching excellence. This initiative is part of Marshall’s continued efforts to provide the best and most cutting-edge education to the next generation of business leaders by supporting, acknowledging, and rewarding teaching excellence.

“Marshall faculty are among the world’s top educators, and their work in the classroom creates a lifelong impact for thousands of students each year,” said DEAN GEOFFREY GARRETT. “It’s a privilege to honor the winners for their innovation, creativity, and commitment to teaching excellence.”

Award winners were determined from the pool of full-time faculty based on student course evaluations, department/school recommendations, the amount of student impact, as well as identifying those faculty praised for innovation in new courses and course design, creative use of technology, inclusive teaching practices, and integrating research and contemporary industry practices into courses.

“Teaching is, of course, central to our mission and by recognizing our most successful teachers with both honors and monetary awards, Marshall is highlighting the importance it places on teaching excellence.”

— PATRICIA MILLS, VICE DEAN OF TEACHING AND FACULTY AFFAIRS

Announced in May 2023, teaching award winners were spread across departments, programs, tenured, and non-tenure track faculty, representing the broad scope of Marshall’s teaching excellence. The teaching award winners are:

Part of the initiative to recognize and reward exceptional teaching was also the creation of several endowed teaching chair positions. These five-year appointments are effectively a lifetime achievement award for teaching, honoring those educators who have consistently demonstrated outstanding teaching practices over the course of their time at Marshall.
